A Community Musical Organisation​

Maffra Municipal Band is currently made up of four different performing groups. Each group includes different instruments and styles of music, each catering to a different level. No matter what you play, or how confident you are, we have a group for you!

Beginner Concert Band
Musical Director: Claire Cochrane
Our Beginner Concert Band is perfect for those who are just starting out, or are returning to an instrument. The band includes woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments, and plays simple music in a variety of different music styles. The Beginner Band will teach you how to play as part of a group, while working on your individual playing and reading skills.
Intermediate Concert Band
Musical Director: Claire Cochrane
The Intermediate Concert Band continues the learning and progress achieved in the Beginner Band. It builds on and further develops your skills as a musician and playing in a group, with more challenging pieces across a wide variety of genres. One aim of this group is to give you the skills to progress into the Senior Concert Band, if you wish.
Choir
Musical Director: Jenny Candy
If you love to sing, then our choir is for you. No need to be able to read music, as we will teach you the basics in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. A non-auditioned group it is open to anyone from secondary school upwards. Part singing will be encouraged and a wide a variety of styles will be covered.
Stage Band
Musical Director: Tim Bull
The Maffra Stage Band is for more confident musicians, who enjoy a selection of swing, jazz and blues music. Learn to enhance your playing with new techniques, and strengthen your skills to take your playing to the next level.

Senior Concert Band
Musical Director: Robert Woodhouse
The Concert Band caters to those who can already play a brass, woodwind, or percussion instrument. Covering a wide range of music from show-tunes and movie themes to pop, rock, and classical arrangements, our Concert band will help you to refine your musicianship as part of a team.

Our String Ensemble
Musical Director: Rosemary Iversen
Our String Ensemble is for those who play the violin, viola, cello, or double bass. With a large selection of music styles, including movie themes, dances, and your favourite orchestral classics, the String Ensemble is perfect for musicians who want to improve their skills, or simply to enjoy playing as a group.

Ukulele Group
Musical Director: Julie Bradley
Newly formed in 2023, Our Ukulele Group is perfect for the casual Uke player, who would like to have a go playing with others. The group meets at 9am each Wednesday, so if you have a ukulele to bring along, come and have a go!
Friends of Maffra Band
Our Friends of Maffra Band are members who do not wish to play an instrument, but would like to support the Maffra Band. Including special performances and exclusive access to band events, our Friends of Maffra Band are the support that every group needs.
